16-17 CBJ Player Profiles: Ryan Murray

Name: Ryan Murray, #27

Position: D

Birthplace: Regina, Saskatchewan

Age: 23, born 9/27/93

Height/Weight: 6 ft 1 in/ 208 lbs

What he has going for him:

A complete season in the books. Before last season, all Columbus fans were beginning to wonder if this second overall draft pick was going to ever be able to stay healthy and last year he not only shook the injury bug, but played in all 82 games even with blocking 171 shots. He is/should be the leader in what could be the best (and youngest) defensive line-up the CBJ have ever had. Posted 25 points last year (4 goals, 21 assists)

What he has going against him:

One complete season. I, and the rest of central Ohio, sincerely hope that we can put that chapter behind us permanently – but only time will tell. The Blue Jackets as a whole must be much more diligent this year in getting the puck out of their zone while maintaining possession.

Prediction for this season:

Murray and Seth Jones on the same line is the most exciting defensive pairing the CBJ have ever had. If they can continue to develop (and quickly), they can be a big part of helping the Jackets sneak into the playoff party.

’16-’17 Jackets Rant stat line prediction: Goals: 10, Assists: 19, Total Points: 29
