Name: Boone Jenner, #38
Birthplace: Dorchester, ON
Age: 23, born 6/15/93
Height/Weight: 6 ft 2 in/ 215 lbs
What he has going for him:
After a season cut short by injury in ’14-’15, Boone Jenner was one of the bright spots for the Blue Jackets last year. Playing in all 82 games Jenner amassed 30 goals, 20 of which were at even strength, and 19 assists. He also may be able to move back to wing with the addition of center Sam Gagner to the roster, which coach Tortorella stated he would prefer over the summer months. In my mind the most positive attribute that Boone has brought to the table is consistency, which has been a major issue for many of his teammates. Drafted by the CBJ in the second round of the 2011 NHL draft, the general sentiment locally is that Jenner is a potential future Captain of this hockey club.
What he has going against him:
I do not believe there will be a decrease in point production, however he may struggle to surpass the 50 point plateau this year if the team does not find forward lines that click consistently early in the season. He may also be forced to play more center again as our depth and faceoff wins both are major points of concern.
Prediction for this season:
Boone Jenner, along with Brandon Dubinsky, are the core of what Columbus fans have come to love about Blue Jackets hockey. Gritty with a physical presence on the boards thanks to his wide 6’2″ frame, Boone will again be one of the main point leaders for this club. If the Blue Jackets are going to make the playoffs, Boone Jenner will have to be one of the largest cogs in the Blue Jackets offense.
